An experimental study on the shock proof according to tooth arrangement of the upper frontal teeth by use of the mouth guard

Abstract


Objectives: The objective of this study is to experiment for compressive strength on the upper anterior teeth model of various types of tooth arrangement or malocclusion, with or without wearing the mouth guard, in order to get the proper informations about the mouth guard effect for shock proof from out force.

Methods: 120 dental models with the plaster were produced and distributed as normal occlusion, anterior spacing, anterior crowding, Class II division 1 and Class II division 2 types of malocclusion. Multi-test 1-i was used to measure the compressive strength and the data were analysed and compared with each other groups.

Results: It was measured as the low, in compressive strength on such malocclusion models as anterior spacing,
anterior crowding and Class II division 1 malocclusion, compared with the normal teeth arrangement, otherwise, high in Class II division 2 malocclusion group. It was revealed more high in compressive strength on wearing the mouth guard groups, compared with non-wearing groups, in all typed of malocclusion groups. On comparing with the groups for wearing the mouth guard, the compressive strength was revealed not so much differences but in normal arrangement it was the most and the least in anterior spacing group(p<0.05).

Conclusion: It should be recommended to wear the mouth guard during hard exercise and sports in order to
shockproof from out force.
